Calloway Gardens

At the end of July, Steve had his MD/PhD retreat at Calloway Gardens. He spent all of Saturday at the conference while I wandered around aimlessly. Two words sum up my time down there: butterflies and HOT! The butterfly center was pretty neat to see. The first couple of photos were taken in the very humid, self-contained butterfly center, which you can see if you click on the link. My lens was fogging up continuously. Quite tricky!

They were fed quite well!

The blue was absolutely striking!

This one actually kind of grosses me out a little.

The next couple of photos were "wild" butterflies.

On Sunday, we both wandered through the park for a couple of hours before venturing back to Atlanta. Although we missed the birds of prey show, Steve was able to measure his wing span.

Not quite reaching the wingspan of the bald eagle.
Looks like he compares to a great horned owl.

One of my favorite plants at the horticultural center.

Steve with Franklin D. Roosevelt.
